Ada Lovelace Cycle: Activities on neuroscience
Every year, the Palmira Domènech Civic Center organizes the Ada Lovelace Cycle aimed at scientific communication and the visibility of women in the scientific-technological field. This year I have been able to illustrate and design the program of activities related to Neuroscience and the secrets of our brain.
For the design of the program we wanted to give a retro graphic look, using illustrations made in engraving style (using digital techniques) and a serif typography reminiscent of old books, combined with a more modern color palette.
All illustrations are made following the methodology of scientific illustration, for which a documentation and reference search was made to present the information in a rigorous way and with truthful content.
Fig.1: Cranial and cervical nerves in the lower view of the right cerebral hemisphere.
Fig. 2: Microglia, cell of the nervous system.
Fig. 3: Synapse: transmission of neurotransmitters between two neurons.
Fig. 4: Unipolar neuron
Fig. 5: Purkinje neuron
The design of the program was also adapted for the vinyls of the center’s windows, covering part of the façade.
These illustrations, made with this methodology, not only bring a great aesthetic and artistic appeal to the program of activities, but also highlight the value of scientific illustration for the transmission of knowledge and complex concepts such as neuroscience, as well as giving visibility to the artistic-scientific work of a local illustrator.
