Illustrations of endangered species in Europe

These illustrations were commissioned by the Timing! agency to develop an advertising graphic for the Volvo brand, inserted in the Matador Z magazine.

For this advert, entitled “Europeans in danger of extinction”, I have illustrated ten endangered species of animals and plants from Europe in an engraving style.

Although this is an advertisement, I followed the scientific illustration methodology to develop each of the illustrations. I have researched each of these species and checked that the illustration was morphologically correct and represented that exact species. For some more charismatic animals, such as the Iberian lynx, it is relatively easy to find information and reference photographs, however, for other less known species, such as the plants or the insect, I could barely find a couple of photographs or simply a small illustration or text description (something that usually happens with endangered species that are very difficult to find), which represented a great challenge when illustrating them.

These illustrations are made with digital technique, imitating the engraving technique. For this, I have used a set of line brushes that helped me to create some of the textures and volumes.
