Cover of Alba Marquez’s doctoral thesis, with a conceptual representation of the research area: the use of Artificial Intelligence, statistical models and satellite images to build predictive models of the impact of climate change on different ecosystems, such as: forests, urban centers and agriculture and livestock.

The creative direction of this illustration was a real challenge, due to the difficulty of finding simple visual references that could represent so many concepts at once, without saturating the cover design too much, allowing to have an elegant and modern style.

After a few attempts, we arrived at this illustration, with coloured shapes and elements drawn with a continuous line.

Some of the previous attempts were later used to create chapter dividers for the slides of the PhD presentation.

Illustrating science often involves representing complex ideas in a conceptual way, to highlight research work that at first glance seems very difficult to capture in an image.
